About the stone: Quarried on the Greek island of Thassos in the northern Aegean, Thassos marble is among the whitest natural stones in the world. Its pure, crystalline white and minimal veining give it an almost luminous quality — light catches it differently to other marbles. Architectural rather than decorative.

Design Heritage The Gatsby takes its inspiration from the stepped Art Deco fireplaces of the 1920s and 1930s — a period when architects like Edwin Lutyens and Oliver Hill rejected ornament in favour of pure geometry. Inspired by the great hotels and townhouses of the era, this design celebrates form, repetition, and the precise control of light across receding planes.

The Details The surround is composed of a series of stepped mouldings that recede inward toward the fire opening, each tier catching and holding light in a different way. Carved from luminous Thassos marble, the layered geometry reads almost as a sculpted relief — architectural, rhythmic, and quietly theatrical. No carved ornament, no fluting; the design speaks entirely through form.
